The Art Déco Hotel Elite – a landmark of Swiss hospitality close to the heartland of Biel's watch making craftsmanship

Built between 1929 and 1932, the Art Déco Hotel Elite came under new ownership in 2015 and has been extensively renovated and modernised. A special highlight is the rooftop restaurant, L'Entrecôte, on the sixth floor with a view over the city. All 70 business rooms, including suites, have retained the original Art Déco charm and offer business and leisure travellers modern design and up-to-date functionality, comfort and class.

Energy autonomy thanks to photovoltaics

The Art Deco Hotel Elite in Biel consumes considerable quantities of electricity for all services, amenities and services. In order to reduce these costs, the owner and the hotelier have not only defined "going green" as a strategy, but are also implementing it - among other things by ordering a 50 kWp photovoltaic system. This PV system can produce enough electricity during the day to cover the greater part of the hotel's operations.

In order to be able to implement the "Going Green" vision, we are looking for reliable partners to support us. We found such a partner in Helion, the business unit of Bouygues Energies & Services, and implemented our photovoltaic system project extremely successfully.

The system and the converters, rather than being placed in the basement, were all mounted on a total of four roof surfaces, so that the cables could be pulled up from the 3rd floor.

The entire system was realised smoothly in around 5 weeks. During the construction period, the opening hours were taken into consideration thanks to prudent planning, and hotel operations were able to continue without restrictions.

Let the sunshine in!

When the sun shines, it's also a sunny day financially for the hotelier. This is because the hotel's electricity costs are significantly lower. Another aspect is also the fact that we are using a natural energy source with solar power and therefore making an active contribution towards sustainably protecting our planet. Today, this is also a sales argument that is observed by customers.
